Y.A.A.ICT-D Community Day
23rd September 2011

On the 23rd September 2011 members of staff of Y.A.A.ICT-D donated a total of 60 bags of cement to Chafuta and Chankhozi Primary Schools in Mchinji district. The two schools have no proper structures to facilitate learning especially during the rainy season. Chafuta is located in TA Kapondo while Chankhozi is in TA Simphasi. Each school got thirty bags of cement each to enable the communities kick-start the construction of modest school blocks at the schools.

The donation ceremony at Chafuta was graced by the MP for area Hon. Alex Chitete who expressed joy and gratitude to Y.A.A.ICT-D for choosing Chafuta which is in his constituency to be a beneficiary of the construction materials. This message was also echoed by the Group Village Headman, Makumbira who implored Y.A.A.ICT-D to continue assisting the area as the area had been overlooked in terms of development projects for a long time. The Village Headman also indicated that since the school block that was under construction will now be completed they will not waste any time before moulding another set of bricks in readiness for the construction of a new block to accommodate two more classes.

A huge crowd waited for us at Chankhozi. Excitement was written all over their faces. At Chankhozi there is no single school block and Standard 3 pupils learn under a tree. Despite the lack of a school block, the community has at more than one occasion moulded bricks as part of the requirement under the Local Development Fund (LDF), but they got disappointed by the responses from the District Assembly. All the speakers at Chankhozi were excited at the prospect of their children learning under a modern classroom. They urged Y.A.A.ICT-D to continue visiting the area with developmental radio programs so that their plight can be told to the nation.

In his speeches at both functions Kenneth Harry Msiska urged the communities to work hard in developing the area and also desist from politicising development.
